Inspiration and Creative Process

Crafting new songs often begins with a spark of inspiration, which can stem from a multitude of sources. Personal experiences frequently serve as a profound wellspring of ideas. Whether it's the euphoria of a newfound love, the melancholy of a bittersweet farewell, or the introspective journey of self-discovery, these emotions translate into compelling narratives and evocative melodies. Current events also play a crucial role, as the world around us provides a rich tapestry of themes and stories. Social issues, political landscapes, and cultural shifts all find their way into the music, offering a timely commentary through lyrical expression.

Another significant source of inspiration is other artists. The works of fellow musicians, both contemporary and from past eras, often ignite creative flames. (Such as some of the bands I work with. EX. Wannabe Canadians, Kids on Blast, ect.) A particular chord progression, a unique drum lick delivery, or an innovative production technique can all spark new ideas. This intertextuality not only pays homage to musical influences but also pushes the boundaries of one's own artistic capabilities.

Once inspiration strikes, the creative process begins in earnest. Initial ideas are usually captured quickly, often as raw sketches or rough demos. These early versions often start off with me jammin' on the drums; or maybe even a bassline. From there, the process involves iterative refinement. Melodies are developed further, keyboard harmonies are explored, and drum tracks are polished to convey the intended groove and feeling of the song more effectively.

Challenges are an inevitable part of this journey. Writers block can stall progress, and technical hurdles can complicate the recording process. However, overcoming these obstacles often leads to unexpected breakthroughs. For instance, working with my friends band Kids on Blast; every single time we record, there's always something amazing we come up with, even throughout all the frustrating battle of technical difficulties. We would make our guitarist's sound exactly the way he likes it. We'd add a microphone behind the drummer's foot, or cut a hole in the snare drum right where a mic can go inside and isolate the snare much better!

Specific anecdotes from the creation of these songs add depth to the narrative. One song, for example, was born out of a struggling time in school, where I needed to let my pain out in some way and put it into a riff. Another emerged from a period of intense reflection during a solo retreat, (Mental hospital) where the solitude allowed for deep musical and rhythmic introspection. These stories not only humanize the creative process but also illustrate the multiverse of paths through which art comes to life.

These demos represent just a glimpse into the evolving soundscape of my upcoming music. Each song is a work in progress, with potential to evolve as I continue to refine and experiment with different elements. The goal is to push creative boundaries while staying true to the core essence of each track. I hope this sneak peek has piqued your curiosity and excitement for what's to come.
